Amazon Moves into Competitive Food Delivery Space with Grubhub Integration

Amazon has integrated Grubhub’s food delivery system into its platform, allowing customers across the U.S. to order from thousands of restaurants directly in the Amazon app and website without having to switch over to the Grubhub app.

Additionally, Amazon has added Grubhub+ membership — worth $120 per year — as a standing benefit for Prime members. Grubhub+ membership includes $0 delivery fees on eligible orders over $12, lower service fees, 5% credit back on pickup orders and exclusive offers. Amazon began the Grubhub+ offer for Prime members in 2022, but now it will be automatically renewed annually for Prime members in good standing. Since 2022, Prime members have saved hundreds of millions of dollars in waived Grubhub subscription fees and discounts, according to Amazon.

“We’re thrilled to build on our successful collaboration with Amazon and bring more convenience to Amazon customers by offering Grubhub’s network of hundreds of thousands of restaurants directly on Amazon.com and in the Amazon Shopping app,” said Howard Migdal, CEO of Grubhub in a statement. “More consumers can now experience the exceptional value and service offered by Grubhub+, with Prime members enjoying $0 delivery fees on an ongoing basis.”

The companies’ partnership also extends to content via the Prime Video and Grubhub “Tune In & Takeout” collaboration, which featured unique food pairings and promotional offers connected to Prime Video shows like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Road House and Ricky Stanicky. Grubhub recently delivered a limited-edition Nuka-Blast Burger meal to mark the premiere of Fallout on Prime Video, featuring the infamously spicy burger along with other iconic staples from the show’s post-apocalyptic universe delivered in a collectible box.

Like many other delivery services, Grubhub has been expanding beyond restaurant deliveries for several years:

  • Grubhub partnered with Rite Aid for deliveries from its 2,000 stores in November 2022;
  • Grubhub partnered with Mercato, an online marketplace for independent grocery stores, in April 2024; and
  • In February 2024, CVS Pharmacy began working with Grubhub for deliveries from its 6,000+ stores.
