Barnes & Noble Revamps Loyalty Program, Adding Free Option
Barnes & Noble has reconfigured its loyalty offerings for the first time since the program began in 2001, launching its first free program and enhancing the benefits of its paid Membership program. The retailer also revealed plans to open 30 new stores in the coming year, although it provided no details on where they would be located or when they would open.
The new free B&N Rewards program issues a stamp to members each time they spend $10, with every 10 stamps earning them a $5 reward. Premium Membership, which costs $39.99 per year, features this spend-and-earn benefit but also adds a 10% discount in-store and online, free standard shipping, drink upgrades in B&N Cafes and a new canvas tote each year, among other perks.
“It is a pleasure to revitalize our Membership, with the new Premium Membership now made so much more valuable to our customers,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble in a statement. “As well as the 10% discount and new spend-and-save rewards, we will be devoting our energies to creating additional offers for our members. As booksellers, we will make these ever more personalized, sharing our knowledge and enthusiasm for books with our customers. It is a very exciting new direction for Barnes & Noble.”
