Crocs Expands Shoe Takeback Program Nationwide
Following a successful 10-state pilot that kicked off in October 2023, Crocs has expanded its “Old Crocs, New Life” takeback program to all its stores in the continental U.S. The sites are equipped with designated collection boxes for customers to drop off used Crocs, in any condition, to receive a one-time 10% discount on Crocs products. Customers also can receive a no-cost mail-back kit for used shoes by visiting the Old Crocs, New Life page on the Crocs site.
“The growth of this program is an exciting continuation of our efforts to address the environmental and social challenges faced by the footwear industry, and ultimately make a difference by keeping shoes on feet and out of landfills,” said Deanna Bratter, VP, Global Head of Sustainability at Crocs in a statement.
Gently used shoes will be donated to the nonprofit Soles4Souls, which works with partners to create local economic benefits around the world via entrepreneurship and employment. Unwearable Crocs will be repurposed to give their materials another use, including being upcycled into new Crocs shoes.
These types of trade-in programs have become increasingly popular in recent months:
- In February 2024 New Balance announced it would accept and resell used shoes in the U.S.;
- Anthropologie brought denim recycling to its stores on a year-round basis;
- Footwear retailer Dr. Martens debuted a resale program in March 2024; and
- Dick’s Sporting Goods expanded its partnership with sporting goods marketplace SidelineSwap in April 2024, leveraging the resale platform for trade-in events at its stores.
