Michaels Launches Birthday Parties, Enhances In-Person and Virtual Events

Hoping to inspire a love of crafting at an early age, Michaels has debuted a Birthday Parties offering following a successful pilot in Canada last year. For kids ages four to 13, each two-hour party will include three different projects with all necessary supplies, a dedicated “party captain” to host and themed evites to manage invitations and RSVPs.

Prices start at $299 for up to eight kids, with the ability to accommodate up to 12. Parents can purchase add-ons like pizza and beverages from Domino’s, goodie bags and balloons. At launch Michaels is partnering with DreamWorks Animation to offer a limited-time party package themed around the preschool series Gabby’s Dollhouse on Netflix; additional themes include Dinosaur Discovery, Enchanted Fairytale and Tie-Dye Time.

Michaels also has updated its MakeBreaks program and brought back its Kids Club. MakeBreaks, which take place on the first and third Sunday of each month, provide customers with an affordable “base” component, guided instruction and the supplies needed to complete a specific craft. The March 17 MakeBreak will focus on painted wooden eggs.

The Kids Club, held the second and fourth Saturday of each month, is a free experience for kids ages three and up, with all supplies provided at no cost. The March 23 event will feature plastic egg bunnies. Michaels has long offered programs designed for kids, including its Camp Creatology.

The retailer also offers free virtual classes (customers must purchase the supplies needed for the project), with both live and on-demand classes featuring projects for all levels along with teaching technical skills such as quilting, sublimation and brush lettering.

In August 2023 Michaels marked its 50th anniversary with a brand refresh that included the tagline “Everything to Create Anything.”
