Publix Promotes Murphy to CEO Post; Jones Named Executive Chairman

Publix has promoted its current President, Kevin Murphy, to CEO, while SVP John Goff will take on the President role. Current CEO Todd Jones has been named Executive Chairman, and all these changes will take effect on Jan. 1, 2024.

All three executives are long-time Publix veterans: Murphy began in 1984 as a front service clerk in Margate, Fla., working his way up through various positions. He was named SVP of Retail Operations in 2016 and President in 2019.

Jones began with Publix in 1980 as a front service clerk in New Smyrna Beach., Fla. He was named President in 2008, added the CEO title in 2016 and was named CEO in 2019. Goff also began in a Publix store, in 1991 in Jacksonville, Fla., working his way up to be named SVP of Retail Operations in 2022.
