Sally Beauty Brings Together HBCU Students and Black Beauty Brand Founders

Sally Beauty and The Black Hair Experience have partnered for two experiential event pop-ups designed to braid together students from historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) with Black and female-founded beauty brands. The Rooted in Success program’s first pop-up will be in Atlanta on Feb. 24, 2024, followed by a Washington, D.C. pop-up on March 16.

The Rooted for Success initiative is dedicated to amplifying the voices of textured hair leaders and innovators in the beauty industry. Each event will feature entrepreneurial-focused panels led by curl expert and content creator Bianca Renee along with networking opportunities, professional head shots, interactive brand demos and complementary products from brands including SheaMoisture, Kaleidoscope, Mielle Organics, TPH by Taraji, Made for Locs, PuffCuff and Bondbar.

“We believe beauty is a powerful form of self-expression, and we see it as our role to facilitate access beyond quality products by providing opportunities for influential industry leaders to engage, inspire and connect with consumers and young entrepreneurs,” said John Goss, President of Sally Beauty in a statement. “At Rooted in Success, we are showcasing founder-led stories from both emerging and established Black beauty leaders, and we are excited to celebrate this partnership through local events and continued support year-round.”

Sally Beauty also is offering active HBCU-enrolled students a 10% discount this Spring, both online and in-store. The retailer debuted free on-demand digital hair coloring consultations in December 2023.
