Toys ‘R’ Us Plants a Flag(ship) in Mall of America

Toys “R” Us will open its second mall-based flagship store on Nov. 17 at Minnesota’s Mall of America, just in time for the holiday season. The 11,000-square-foot store is the latest addition to the retailer’s growing U.S. brick-and-mortar fleet, which also includes another flagship in New Jersey’s American Dream mall, as well as 452 shop-in-shops at Macy’s stores across the country. Globally, Toys “R” Us operates 1,400 stores and ecommerce businesses in 31 countries.

Beginning in 2024, the new store will introduce elements like Geoffrey’s Café and ice cream parlor along with interactive experiences and product demos from popular toy brands. Toys “R” Us parent company WHP Global will operate the Mall of America store in partnership with Go! Retail Group, and also plans to open airport and cruise ship locations next year.

“After the success we’ve experienced with our first flagship at American Dream and shops inside Macy’s, bringing Toys “R” Us to Mall of America was a must,” said Jamie Uitdenhowen, EVP of Toys “R” Us at WHP Global. “There is a perfect mix of entertainment and retail that makes it a highly trafficked go-to destination for families year-round.”
