Walgreens Creates Tool for Discovering Prescription Discounts

Walgreens has partnered with RxSense to create the Rx Savings Finder, providing shoppers with easier access to prescription discounts. Now available free to Walgreens customers nationwide, the tool finds free third-party discount cards for thousands of medications and offers customers transparent pricing before they reach the checkout counter.

Patients can access the discount card prices by text message or email, which can be presented at a Walgreens pharmacy to be applied to the price of their prescriptions. Walgreens hopes that consolidating the search process across multiple discount card websites will save patients time and also alleviate Walgreens pharmacists’ workloads.

“Over one-third of Americans have avoided a prescription refill to reduce costs, and with over 131 million Americans taking at least one prescription medication, this is very concerning,” said Rick Gates, Chief Pharmacy Officer at Walgreens in a statement.

“The response to our pilot program has been overwhelmingly positive, with both customers and our dedicated pharmacy staff reporting significant time and cost savings,” said Gates. “One striking instance involves a pharmacist’s recent account where our Rx Savings Finder tool helped a customer save over $75 on their prescriptions during a single visit.

“This tool is just one facet of our evolving suite of pharmacy solutions,” he added. “Our digital innovations, spanning telepharmacy, microfulfillment and cutting-edge technologies, align with the evolving needs of patients and pharmacists.”
