Costco Ventures Further into Healthcare with New Weight Loss Service

Costco has expanded its partnership with health care marketplace Sesame to offer weight loss care that includes individual clinical consultations and access to medications, if clinically appropriate and subject to their availability. For $179, Costco members will receive three months of clinical consultation, a nutritional guide and recommendations, and the ability to message with their clinician outside of scheduled appointments.

“We are witnessing important innovations in medically-supervised weight loss,” said David Goldhill, Co-founder and CEO of Sesame in a statement. “Sesame’s unique model allows us not only to make high-quality specialty care like weight loss much more accessible and affordable, but also to empower clinicians to create care plans that are specific to — and appropriate for — each individual patient.”

Costco and Sesame first partnered in September 2023 to offer warehouse club members discounts on health care. Sesame, which does not accept health insurance, operates a marketplace comprised of primary care doctors and nurse practitioners, more than 40 specialties, labs and imaging centers, and offers both virtual and in-person care.

Via the partnership, Costco members can schedule a virtual primary care appointment for $29; order a panel of standard lab tests plus a virtual provider consultation for $72; receive virtual mental health therapy for $79 a session; and get 10% off all other Sesame services, including in-person appointments.
